November 02, 2016 (DCnepal.com) – Tihar is the second largest festival after Dashain. Tihar is also known as Deepawali and Yamapanchak as well as Swonti in Newari community. It is celebrated for five days long in Nepal by Hindu religion.


The fourth day of Tihar is Gobhardha Puja or Mha Puja. On the fourth day of Tihar, there are three different known pujas, depending on the peoples cultural background. It is observed as Goru Tihar or Goru Puja (worship of the oxen).
People who follow Vaishnavism perform Govardhan Puja. Cow dung is taken as representative of the mountain and is worshiped. Additionally, majority of the Newar community on the night perform Mha Puja (worship of self). This day is seen as the beginning of the new Nepal Sambat calendar year.


Similarly, newar people that have been staying in America for different purposes have celebrated Mha Puja. The people in America have done "Mha Puja" in the organization of Newah Organization of America (NOA).


Newah Organization of America is a non – profit Tax – Exempt Organization registered in USA. It is the forum of indigenous people of Kathmandu Valley, Nepal to advance the Newah community into mainstream of American life. This organization has been helping to promote newari culture and tradition though they are in abroad far from their country, home town and their families.
In the organization of the same NOC, the Mha Puja program has been held in America. all the newars gathering at one place they did Mha Puja commonly and celebrated Mha Puja in a splendid way.
