Basanti Maharjan, November 03, 2016 (DCnepal) – Tihar is second largest festival of all Nepalese after Dashain. Tihar is also known as Deepawali and Yamapanchak as well as Swonti in Newari community.
Tihar is celebrated for five days long in Nepal by Hindu religious people. It is also considered as the festival of lights, colours and flowers. On this festival, people really enjoys with colours, lights and playing a traditional deusi- bhailo program.
Deusi and bhailo are traditional songs that are sung during the festival of light called deepawali in Nepal. Children and teenagers sing the songs and dance as they go to various homes in their community, collecting money, sweets, food and giving blessings for prosperity.
Bhailo is generally sung by girls, while Deusi is sung by boys but these days everybody sings together. And also this days not only deusi- bhailo are sung in Nepal but nowadays as Nepalese are found to be more living in abroad countries.
They even had started to celebrate Nepalese festivals and have been celebrating different Nepalese festivals there in preserving the tradition and culture there in abroad country.
Similarly, a renowned comedian actor of Nepal Shivahari Poudel is in America (USA) to attend some program. As he was in USA at the time of Tihar, he had celebrated Tihar there along with the4 Nepalese who have been living there with some purpose.
Poudel celebrated Deepawali playing deusi with Nepali emigrants in Dashan and said that he was very pleased to celebrate Tihar in USA and sing deusi songs with Nepalese brother and sisters at the home of Nepalese brother in Virginia, USA.
